Barbara, the Mother of the Groom contacted me (Tracie) upon the recommendation of Simeon the owner of the Jam Handy in Detroit. She was planning a Korean Dance Party Wedding Reception for her son John and his new bride, Hong Joo. The couple wed in Korea a few months prior and wanted to have a celebration for their Detroit family. I was excited to work with Barbara on helping her secure a caterer, rentals, floral/decor and all of the details together for the special event!

The event took place in an old movie studio in Downtown Detroit which is a completely blank space so everything has to be brought in. Crisp Khaki linens, a mix of figi mums, succulents, green tric, blue thistle and assorted foliages adorned the space and offered the guest tables a textured look.

Barbara is quite the party planner herself and owned these cute little burplap holders and blue glassware so to trim down on costs we incorporated them into the design.

Notice the beautiful photos taken in Korea from the couples wedding day that Simeon and Georgie from Blumz hung on the wall as a focal point when guests entered the room. The hanging ferns embellished and completed the look along with the theatrical lighting.

What is a Detroit party without offering the guests some Better Made Potato Chips?

We had a variety of delicious food coming from a local caterer that was served at stations to include Eastern Market, Middle Eastern and of course Korean not to mention delectable signature Detroit desserts!
