Workplace Factors Affecting Employee Well-being
Each wedding season we hire interns to help us with the weddings so they can learn the ropes. Our interns are so valuable to us and although they take on the position to learn from us and to receive college credit we learn so much from them. We want them to share their opinions, ideas and feedback and it’s so refreshing and exciting to work with these young individuals each year. Our interns work from home but some wedding planning firms have the go to an actual office environment.
An employee’s well-being is more than just about their
character and personality. Several factors influence how an employee thinks,
feels, and acts. Many employers don’t know this, so they often neglect working
on solutions to improve the well-being of those under their supervision and
control.

The employee’s background, family conditions, and personal situations
indeed play a significant role. And truth be told, there’s nothing an employer
can do about these factors without intruding into the privacy of their
employees. But they can address other conditions that are within the ambit of
the workplace.

What employers can do to improve their employees’ well-being
is to give them a quality working environment. Studies show that employers who
create a positive environment for their workers help improve
the latter’s performance and health – both physically and
psychologically.

Workplace design
The physical aspect of the office is an important
contributor to employee satisfaction and well-being. That includes the office
design, structure, and organisation. This is why some business owners hire
architects to design their office spaces.

Recent studies would suggest that workplace
design and structure have cognitive effects on employees. It contributes to how
an employee feels and acts in the office. A building’s structure is not only
for the safety of the people inside. But more discreet elements play important
roles. The lighting, wall colour, and temperature are just a few key factors
that can help promote the productivity and efficiency of those working in the
environment.

No one would want to work in a messy office. Too much
clutter can cause pressure and stress. So an office that is organised with cardboard box separators or fillers to reduce
clutter can make it pleasing to the beholders. An aesthetically pleasing office
space can affect the emotions and mood of the employees significantly.

Leadership style
The number one reason why employees quit their jobs is
because of their working relationship with their boss. The boss is indeed the
leader, and he calls the shots. Employees recognise that, as well. But a good
boss is not one that mistreats his workers. Instead, a good boss listens to his
employees and puts their well-being on top priority.

Studies show that a toxic relationship between an employee
and his or her boss undermines confidence, trust, and loyalty. To increase an
employee’s satisfaction with his or her job, a good working relationship with
their bosses or supervisors is a crucial factor.

Employee independence
Although the employees are indeed part of the whole
organisation, it doesn’t mean that they should be dictated about their jobs.
When they are dictated and managed in even the smallest aspects of their work,
they’re more likely to be dissatisfied with their jobs.

The right balance between managing the employees and giving
them the independence to do their work should be found. From the employer, it
would require trust. Each person in the company was hired because they obtain
the skills needed for the job. So employees should be allowed to thrive and
excel on their own.

The employees are the most crucial part of the company. To
achieve organisational goals, business owners must invest in the well-being of
their employees and put their needs at top priority. To do this, much attention
should be given to the workplace environment and make it a place that
encourages employee well-being and satisfaction.
