7 Tips for the Perfect Smile on Your Wedding Day
Tips for the perfect smile on your wedding day.
There’s a million things to worry about when planning your wedding. Of course you want to feel your best.
And in order to do that, you want to look your best!
Your dress, hair, and makeup are all important, of course. But your smile will be your best accessory on your big day.
You want to feel comfortable, happy, and confident for your photos and your new family.
Here are 7 tips to make sure you have a perfect smile ready to go for your wedding day.
1. Visit the Dentist
The first (and most important) thing you can do is go to the dentist for a regular checkup and cleaning. Be sure to schedule this appointment several months in advance. That way if there are any issues they can be corrected with plenty of time before your big day.
Your dentist can provide you with tips to keep your mouth clean and healthy, along with products that can improve your oral health.
If you don’t have a dentist, see the American Dental Association’s (ADA) guide on How to Choose a Dentist.
2. Straighten Your Teeth
Everyone wants a beautiful smile and straight teeth. What’s stopping you from getting yours?
Many people had braces as a child and their teeth have regressed a little. Others have teeth that are close to perfect, but not quite what they want.
Clear aligners are a great option for people who to straighten their teeth quickly and discreetly. With companies like byte, you don’t even have to visit the dentist to get the perfect smile makeover!
Remote treatment can save you valuable time and money, so you can straighten your teeth and plan your wedding at the same time.
3. Whiten Your Teeth
Whitening your teeth used to be a huge expense, and only available at your dentist. Now, there are hundreds of over-the-counter teeth whitening products containing the same ingredients as in-office treatments.
You can see big results in two weeks or less. Just be sure to follow the instructions very carefully!
For the best and safest results, use teeth whitening treatments that have the ADA Seal of Acceptance.
4. Avoid Teeth Staining Foods
Unfortunately, some of our favorite foods and drinks can stain our teeth. In preparation for your wedding, especially if you’re whitening your teeth, it’s best to avoid (or reduce) eating or drinking food that can cause tooth discoloration.
Some common foods that can stain teeth include:
- Tea and coffee
- Red wine
- Sauces with deep colors (tomato, soy, curry, etc.)
- Vibrant fruits (blueberries, cherries, blackberries, etc.)
- Soda and sports drinks
- High-sugar foods (candy, sweets, cake, etc.)
Other tips to help reduce staining include using a straw, and rinsing and brushing immediately after you eat.
5. Brush and Floss Every Day
Of course, this seems obvious. But with all the stress of planning a wedding, it can be easy to let your oral hygiene routine take a quick dip.
Remember, the best thing you can do for your teeth and mouth is to brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss daily. Using mouthwash occasionally can also help prevent cavities or keep plaque away.
6. Find the Perfect Lipstick
Ok, now that we’ve got all of the technical stuff out of the way, onto the fun stuff! On the day of your wedding, your lipstick is going to be your best tool to compliment your smile.
Choosing the right shade can help frame your smile and provide contrast or compliment your facial features.
Chances are, you already know your perfect lipstick. In this article by Vogue, White Rose Collective makeup artist Tiffany Patton advises brides to wear their favorite lipstick on their wedding day, saying “You know how it feels, how it wears, and when you need to reapply.”
7. Practice Makes Perfect!
If you are naturally photogenic, or have worked hard to improve your smile in photos, then relax, you’re all set.
If you’re like the millions of us who get nervous and don’t know what to do with yourself in front of a camera, don’t worry, you’re not alone!
The best thing you can do to prepare for your wedding photos is to practice. You can hire a photographer Sydney for a pre-wedding shoot, or get your partner-to-be to snap some pics with their phone.
Figure out which side is your good side, whether you should tilt your head up or down slightly, and how many pearly whites you want to show, so you’re ready to go on your big day.
Other tips to improve your smile include:
- Close your eyes and take some deep breaths to relax yourself before posing
- Say “Money” instead of “Cheese”
- Think about something (or someone) that makes you happy
- Be silly, make jokes, and try to relax
- Imagine someone that makes you smile is taking your picture
- Push your tongue against the roof of your mouth to help lengthen your neck and posture.
There you have it, 7 easy, accomplishable ways to make sure your smile is ready for your big day.
Of course, your smile isn’t the only thing that you’ll have to worry about, but it’s a great place to begin. If you look good, you’ll feel good. This will help give you the energy to get everything you need done and enjoy your special day!
