Things I Wish I Knew Before I Got Married
There are things I wish I knew before I got married. First, I would say that weddings are more expensive than you think. I say this first because there are so many other points I don’t know where to start. But I’ll give it my best shot.
Your wedding is about you. Center your decisions around you and your spouse’s happiness. Make sure you start the planning process with a clear vision of how you want your wedding to be. Keep a poster board or even an on-line version to help you stay focused on your vision.

Now the toughest part, setting a budget. It is not as easy as naming a price and moving forward. Your venue, photographer, cake, florals and your headcount all depend upon the budget. When planning a budget, it is a good time to decide what you want versus what you need. Also it is a good time to figure out what you are willing to do to achieve your goals. That may consist of sacrificing your favorite subscription to possibly a part time job.
Date nights are important. Planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things to do. Don’t forget to make time for yourselves. Even if that is a walk around the dog park or a picnic in the grass. Dates don’t have to be expensive.

Always get things in writing. It is a good thing after a phone call to follow up with an email to the vendor reiterating what was discussed. That way there are no surprises. Don’t be afraid to negotiate with vendors.
Time. Time is an important consideration in all planning. I am not saying that you can’t plan a wedding in 12 weeks, it can and has been done. The vendors and venue you choose may not be available with short notice. So leave yourself plenty of time.
ON the last note, remember even the best laid plans can get disrupted by any number of things. Just remember you will be so focused on each other that the little things won’t matter.
