A Simple Step Towards an Environment Conscious Wedding

Within recent years, our
understanding of our planet has improved drastically. Food miles, carbon
footprints, and waste are no longer a small thought in the back of our minds.
This means many of us have started considering ways to make our lifestyle more environmentally
friendly. A recent trend that has been sweeping Metro Detroit’s foodservice is
disposable straws. For many they are a luxury product that does not add
anything to the experience besides contributing to landfills. In an attempt to
become greener, restaurants and venues have stopped automatically serving
straws and only do so if asked by a guest or if a guest requires one due to a
disability.

If you are looking for a way
to make your wedding more ecofriendly, ask your venue to remove straws from bar
counters and have bartenders not add them to any drink unless asked. This may
seem like a small step but at the end of the day any small impact can turn into
a wave. You may add a small sign that encourages guest to refrain from straws
or have your DJ announce it at the beginning of cocktail hour or the reception.
