Wedding Planner for A Summer 2018
A few words from our intern, Maureen, about her summer as a wedding planner….
I had the great opportunity of being a wedding planner for this
past summer. I spent May through October of 2018 being a wedding coordinator
intern with Tracie so that I may fulfill a requirement for my program plan for
school but also, so I could learn more about the exciting world of event
management. I first heard of You’re The Bride and Tracie through Lisa, the
internship coordinator at Macomb Community College. Lisa showed me style shoots
of Tracie’s, and told me how Tracie is known for being a great mentor for all
of her interns. To say I was beyond excited to spend this summer with You’reThe Bride would be an understatement. Spending the summer learning how the
wedding planner industry works was basically an internship dream come true.

Maureen, Tracie and Samm
This summer I learned a multitude
of new things and gained valuable experience. I assisted with day of
coordinating, vendor meetings and calls, designed marketing materials, conducted
research, and wrote weekly blog posts. The most critical thing I learned was something
a college course would never be able to teach me, I learned how to work with
clients. I considered myself someone with a great deal of customer service
experience (5+ years) but working with brides and families is a totally
different ballgame. For many of these brides, their wedding is the day they
have been dreaming of ever since they were little girls and it is our job to
make that dream a reality. This brought on a new level of stress for me but I
am thankful that Tracie was always there to direct me on which tasks are a
priority. I was even lucky enough to get recognition in one of the many five
star reviews we received during the six months I worked with Tracie.

As my internship draws to
end, I am able to look back on each event I assisted with and remember each new
challenge that was presented but also the reward of making our clients happy.
It was so much fun to work with great venues like the Great Lakes Culinary Center and The Inn at St. John’s. Every moment taught me something new and has
helped better prepare me for a career in the hospitality world.
